Artist

Gillian OAM studied art under Dorothy Braund for a period of ten years, from 1970 to 1980. Dorothy instilled in her the love of form, space and tension between figures and a whimsical way of commenting on social events.

From 1980, Gillian began using art in her clinical work with adult survivors of childhood trauma, encouraging her clients to draw and paint. The emerging work was so powerful that she organised an exhibition of 400 pieces of art from survivors around Australia. The exhibition took place at an International Conference on Trauma and Dissociation in 2003.

She received an Order of Australia medal for her work in 2013.

Gillian returned to her own art under the guidance of Kathryn Tilley and Wendy Smith. Kathryn’s unique talent with colour and technique has influenced her present work.
